I just had to share this excellent blog about a "famous" Linthicum cousin, Lotta Linthicum
Lotta Linthicum, Broadway Actress
I hope that this Linthicum blog will be another vehicle to promote research and sharing of early Linthicum family history. Anything related to the extended Linthicum family and , IMO, a bit interesting and/or historically appropriate will be fair game. A very personal goal of mine is to find ”cousins” from branches of my own line with whom I can collaborate on some very specific issues which have defied my efforts to properly document a few key relationships.

Linthicum 101. This is a must read!
I purchased this book in CD form many years ago. It is now out of copyright and the link below will take you to a website where you can download it for free! You’ll want the B/W .pdf version most likely. I added this review a couple of years ago.

If you are researching the Linthicum family, this has to be your bible. Sure, she has mistakes but there is simply no other published work that comes close to giving you a platform to begin or solidify your research.
Do yourself a favor and download the .pdf version to your hard drive and then you can text search it, print out the pages that interest you and generally get your research going.
Genealogy of the Linthicum and allied families : Badger, Matilda Phillips Jones, 1865- : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive
If you are lucky your research from your first few generations of ancestors that you probably know about will intersect with Matilda’s work and you are off to the races. However, just a reminder, if you look at Matilda’s sources , you will surmise that she had a vast network of “cousins” that she no doubt had correspondence with. In some cases, like my line for instance, the grapevine had a couple of kinks in it. Lacking proper facts, for other reasons like covering up a bit of a scandal or just through many retellings with a small bit of embellishment with each telling, “family traditions” not labeled as such can become serious red herrings. Remember that without specific sources for information, a book like this is just a very valuable guideline that in many cases will point you to the records you need to see first hand to determine if you agree with the author’s conclusions. I will give you another great reference work on the Linthicums that requires just a little more effort to access in another post in the near future.
By the way, if you cannot connect your family to the families that Matilda studied, I would be pleased to see if I could help you in any way. I have extended many families besides my own well into the 1940’s using the information I can find on Ancestry.com and the Internet.
Good Hunting,
Terry Linthicum
Note: I am still playing with this blogger and will try to provide a little valuable and interesting content as I feel my way along. I do not like the looks of the link above as it previews so I am inserting it again :
Link to Matilda Badgers Book Last resort Google Badger and Linthicum and it will be in the first few listings.
